The Rev.
Chris A. Branscomb has been the pastor of Bethel UMC since June 2010.
He was commissioned
as a United Methodist pastor in the North Georgia Conference in 2004 and
ordained an elder
in 2008. During his
time in the ministry, Chris has served both large and small churches. As a youth minister,
Chris served Morristown First UMC (Morristown, TN),
Providence UMC (Charlotte, NC), and
Kennesaw UMC (Kennesaw, GA). Since being commissioned as a United Methodist
pastor in the
North Georgia Conference, he has served at Lebanon UMC
(Gillsville, GA), Williamstown UMC
(McCaysville, GA), and now here at Bethel UMC
(Hiram, GA). Chris
grew up in Tucker, GA and was a member of Tucker First UMC. He attended Shamrock High
School in Decatur, GA. He then
attended Auburn University, receiving a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering
in June 1994. After hearing his
calling into the ministry, Chris spent a few years serving
as a youth minister. He eventually
returned to school at Emory University and received a Masters
of Divinity from Candler School of Theology in May 2003. Chris
married his wife, Heather, in August 2000.
The two met while attending a mission trip to the Appalachia
Mountains in Virginia in 1998. Heather
grew up in Norcross, GA and was a member of Norcross
First UMC.
She attended Meadowcreek High School in
Norcross, GA. She also attended University
of Georgia, receiving a Bachelor of Music in June 1998, specializing in
Musical Therapy. She is
currently teaching special education at Burnett Elementary. Chris
and Heather have two children; Emily, who was born in November 2004, and
Joshua, who was born in
May 2008. The Branscomb’s come from families who have been very active
in the Methodist Church. Both of their
parents are very active in their local United Methodist congregations. Chris’ grandfather, Dr.
Edwin Branscomb, and his great-grandfather, Dr.
L.C. Branscomb, were Methodist pastors in the North
Alabama Conference. Heather’s grandfather,
Rev. Tom Cramer, was a Methodist pastor in
the Holston Conference.
